Why this exists
Automatic trackers fail quietly. CLKD doesn't guess.
Every mileage app sells the same promise: do nothing, and we'll work out when you were driving. The app guesses from motion and GPS whether a trip started. When the guess is wrong it doesn't know it was wrong, so there is no error and no notification. A missed week looks exactly like a week you didn't drive. You find out in April.

Real reviews, quoted word for word from Google Play. Every automatic tracker works the same way. It watches motion and GPS and guesses when a drive started and ended. Guess wrong one way and it records a trip you never took. Guess wrong the other way and it misses one you did. Neither one throws an error. To the app, both look like it working.
Either way you end up with a document with your name on it that you can't vouch for. So CLKD doesn't guess unless you tell it to. Out of the box, nothing is recorded that you didn't start. If you know you'll forget the button, there's an auto start and stop switch in Settings. It's off by default for the reason above.
How it works
Three taps, one record.
CLKD records when you tell it to and stops when you tell it to. It only uses your location while a drive is being recorded, and it never asks your phone for "Always" location access unless you turn on auto start, which needs it and says so at the moment you flip the switch.

What you end up with
Every element the deduction asks for.
IRS Publication 463, on recordkeeping: "A timely kept record has more value than a statement prepared later when generally there is a lack of accurate recall." No plug-in device, no special form. A record of amount, time, place, and purpose, kept at the time of the drive.

Does CLKD detect my drives automatically?
Not unless you ask it to. Out of the box every drive starts with a tap and ends with a tap, and nothing is recorded that you didn't start. That is the default on purpose.
If you'd rather not think about the button, because it's a truck you get into every morning or a route you drive every day, there is an auto start and stop switch in Settings. It's off by default because motion-based detection guesses, and a wrong guess, like a ride in someone else's car, is a phantom trip in a document your accountant reads. Your call. Every drive stays yours to edit or delete before it's exported.
Does this make my log audit-proof?
No app can promise that, and anyone who does is overselling. There is no such thing as an IRS-approved mileage app. CLKD captures what Publication 463 asks for, at the time of the drive. Whether a deduction holds up depends on your return, not on our marketing.
